About Denise
Pull up a chair
I'm a home cook who believes a good meal doesn't have to be complicated. Here you'll find the recipes my friends and family ask for most, tested in my own kitchen and written so anyone can make them.
- CookedEvery dish made in my own kitchen before it gets posted
- ClearSteps you can follow with flour on your hands
- EverydayIngredients you can find at any supermarket
I learned to cook the way most people do: by watching, tasting and getting it wrong a few times. My first “signature dish” was a pot of chili so spicy nobody could finish it. These days the chili is a lot better, the kitchen is a lot messier, and there is almost always something cooling on the counter.
Denise Recipes started as a notebook. Friends kept asking for the things I brought to dinners and birthdays, and I got tired of scribbling instructions on the back of envelopes. So I started writing them down properly, with every step and every little trick, and that notebook slowly became this website.
My kind of cooking
I love food that feels generous but doesn’t keep you in the kitchen all night. Think creamy pastas, soups that get better the next day, sheet-pan dinners, fresh salads, a good batch of cookies and the occasional showstopper cake. Nothing here needs special equipment or ingredients you have to hunt for.
- Weeknight dinners that come together while the kids do homework.
- Weekend projects for when you feel like baking something special.
- Make-ahead dishes for busy weeks, potlucks and holidays.
How a recipe lands here
Every recipe gets cooked in my kitchen at least twice before it is published. I write it out as I go, then make it again following only my notes, the way you would. If a step is confusing or a time is off, it gets fixed. I also add the swaps and shortcuts I actually use, because real life rarely matches the ingredient list perfectly.
Beyond the kitchen
When the oven is off, I’m usually crocheting. It’s how I relax in the evenings, and I share those projects too. You’ll find my free crochet patterns on the other side of this site, just one click away at the top of the page.

How I cook
Three things I never skip
Testing it twice
A recipe only goes up after I have cooked it more than once and fixed every step that tripped me up.
Honest clocks
Times are measured in a real home kitchen, with real interruptions, so you can plan your evening around them.
Room at the table
I cook for a crowd, so most recipes scale up easily and travel well to potlucks, picnics and family dinners.
