Candy canes, baubles and a big bow make the table feel like Christmas.
About This Christmas Candy Cane Table Runner Crochet Pattern Pattern
This Christmas table runner is about 31 inches long and 7 inches wide before the decorations. The center is a row of seven cream snowflake medallions joined as you go, framed by a deep red border with a scalloped lace end.
Along both edges I add little striped candy canes, round baubles and holly leaves with red berries, and I finish the near end with a big puffy red bow. It is worked in light weight cotton, so the lace holds its shape on the table.
Why You'll Love This Christmas Candy Cane Table Runner Crochet Pattern Pattern
I love how the plain cream lace lets the red and green decorations shine. Each little piece is quick to make, so you can crochet a candy cane or a bauble in an evening.
The big bow is my favorite part. It makes the whole runner look like a wrapped gift sitting on the table.
Switch Things Up
Try an all-white runner with silver baubles for a frosty look, or swap the red border for forest green. You can also make the candy canes in pink and cream, skip the holly and add tiny stars, or use worsted weight yarn and a larger hook for a bigger runner.

Assembly Instructions
- Block the joined Snowflake Medallions and Border flat, pinning the runner to about 31 by 7 inches, and let it dry completely.
- Sew the two Bow Loops together at the center back, lay the two Bow Tails behind them in a V, and wrap the Bow Center tightly around the middle, sewing its ends together at the back.
- Sew the finished big bow to the near end of the runner, and sew the small bow made from the shorter loops to the far end.
- Tie a small bow of green yarn around the curve of each Candy Cane, then sew two Berries to the base of every Holly Leaf.
- Sew the Candy Canes, Baubles and Holly Leaves along both long edges of the Border, alternating them about 2 inches apart.
- Keep every decoration on the red border so the cream snowflake lace stays fully visible.
- Weave in all remaining ends and press the finished runner gently with a damp cloth.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Joining the medallions at the wrong loop: lay the pieces in a row first so the loops you join face each other.
Skipping the count after Border Round 1: check that you have 360 sc before you carry on so the border lies flat.
Overstuffing the candy canes: fill them lightly and let the wire hold the curve so the stripes stay straight.
Working the bow loops too loosely: use firm tension and sew the center band tight so the bow stays puffy.
Important Notes
Gauge does not need to be exact, but keep your tension even so the medallions are the same size.
Blocking makes the lace open up and lie flat, so do not skip it.
Hand wash cold and dry flat, and take the gold trim and decorations off first if you plan to wash the runner often.
I hope this runner makes your Christmas table feel extra cozy. Happy hooking!
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
How big is the finished runner?
About 31 inches long and 7 inches wide, with the decorations adding roughly 2 inches on each side.
Can I use a thicker yarn?
Yes. Worsted weight with a 4.0 mm hook makes a larger runner, but you will need more yarn and the medallions will be bigger.
How do I wash it?
Hand wash in cold water, press out the water gently and lay it flat to dry. Remove the gold trim and decorations first if you want to wash it often.
