Purple, fizzy and a little floral, this is the drink I make when I want something special without any alcohol.

What makes it special
Lemon juice
Leaves basil
This is my go-to for baby showers, garden parties and any time there are guests who don't drink. It looks like a fancy cocktail, it takes ten minutes, and nobody feels like they're missing out.
The flavors
Blueberries for sweetness and that gorgeous purple color.
Lemon for brightness.
Basil for a fresh, green, almost peppery note.
Lavender for a soft floral finish.
Sparkling water to make it light and fizzy.
Keeping the lavender gentle
The one way to ruin this drink is too much lavender, which makes it taste like soap. Use culinary lavender only, steep it briefly and add the infusion gradually, tasting as you go. You want a whisper, not a bouquet.
Variations
Frozen: blend everything with ice for a slushy.
Still: use cold water instead of sparkling.
Citrus: add a splash of fresh orange juice.
For a crowd: multiply everything in a big pitcher and add the sparkling water at the last moment.
Making it ahead
The lavender infusion keeps for 3 days in the fridge, and you can muddle the berries and basil a few hours early. Add ice and bubbles right before serving so it stays fizzy.
An alcohol-free spritz with muddled blueberries, fresh basil, lemon and a light lavender infusion, topped with sparkling water.

Questions, answered
Can I use frozen blueberries?
Yes. Let them thaw for a few minutes first so they muddle easily.
I don't like lavender. Can I leave it out?
Of course. Blueberry, basil and lemon are delicious on their own.
Can I use dried basil?
Not really. Fresh basil is what gives the drink its bright, herby flavor.
